Crossing Ending Re-write

He removed the hand from his stomach and reached for his back pocket, dug at something and pulledat it untill his bloddy hand held it up to manny. It was the wallet. "No," Manny said. "Not in this way. No." "Take it," Robert said now. "Take it and run and cross and get the green card and live there. It is what you want. What I want you to have. Take it and run before there are police here, little monkey, and do not let the snake..." but before he could continue his thoughts slipped away, his mind clouding and sorroundings fading.

Manny saw this and ran out to the street looking for some one to help. 3 police officers showed up just as manny exited the alley. "Vengan, come please" he quickly rushed them to where the sergeant layed. "What happened here?" asked one of the officers. "I was attacked by the street wolves," manny said "the sergeant was with me and killed them, with his bare hands.." "But they had weapons.. Knives and a chain, they hurt the sergeant please help him!" Manny beggan to sobb & just layed with his back against the wall.
"Please save him, esta muy herido." Two of the police officers carried the sergeant out to the street as the other called for an ambulance. "Tell us exactly what happened here y como te llamas" said an officer. Manny had only seen their uniforms so far, as he looked up he recognized the officer, it was the officer that had *saved* him at the bridge. " Me lammo Manny Bustos," manny said now after taking a pause to inspect the officer " I was just walking down the street when i saw the sergeant in the alley, he looked sickly so i came to see if he could use help." manny paused to clear tears from his cheeks, he thought it would not be manly to keep crying. "
We were just headed out the alley when those four 'wolves' appeared, they said they wanted to take me and told the sergeant to leave." Said manny as he took a deep breath. "But the sergeant did not move.. said he would not move and they attacked him." He wiped a tear from his eye and continued. " First one attacked... he had a knife but the sergeant did not care he cut the sergeants arm... but with one move from the sergeants hand had the man dead lifeless on the floor." Just then manny noticed the lights and sounds of the siren that had come for the sergeant and how they took him across the bridge.
Three weeks had passed since the accident manny had not crossed the border instead he waited for the sergeant to get well and return the wallet when he returned. After recovering the sergeant went back to his usual agenda. he visited the Club Congo Tiki and his drinking, but now he did not drink till his mind was numb and gone, but just because he liked drinking.

The power of will.

"The Crossing" & "The Power of One" had some similarities that I will talk about. To me the greatest similaritie was "will" the will that both Manny Bustos and PK the two main characters. They had to stand for what they believed in and continue on even after all the obstacles they faced. They both faced poverty as abandoned children. Manny was a poor kid from Juarez, Mexico who wanted to cross the border into the US while PK had to help the poor natives of South Africa to better themselves. Manny had to face the city of Juarez a dangerous place filled with men who would sell him and the fear of starving to death. Pk had to face the goverment of South Africa it was an afrikaner goverment that was racist towards the natives and english they would beat them and treat them with no respect. Also  Manny and PK met people that helped them continue on the Sergeant & Guideon.

They had their differences aswell, even though they were both abandoned as children Manny was taken in by a church & PK was sent to a boarding school. Manny's goal in life was to cross the border to America so he could live the American dream. PK wanted to help the natives and reduce all the racism, he taught them how to read and write so they could better themselves even though the goverment wanted to keep them ignant. The stories took place in completely different countries, "The Crossing" took place in Mexico/USA (because it was at the border). "The Power of One" took place in south america. PK is english, but they never say what ethnicity Manny is.

I connected to manny's storie because his storie is so similar of those that have been told to me by friends and even family that had to cross the border they also did it to escape similar hardships. Also because I have been to mexico and I have seen the way the impoverished live there. They are strong people to be able to livce on in such harsh conditions. Pk's storie ot to me. He was brave to stand up for who were not related to him in either blood or ethnicity. He lost his love and was almost broken, but he picked himself up. He continued on his journey to educate the natives and that way help stop the oppression.

A quote I liked was "A waterfall begins with only one drop of water"-Pk.
I liked this quote because it represented what they were trying to do. by teaching one person he can teach another, and then the person taught can teach more. In time it will become an unstopable waterfall, were from one hundreds come after. To me the theme/main idea's of the storie were If you trully want change you should take the initiative to do it yourself instead of waiting on others. Also that equallity is necessary for people to live happy not in fear.
